Biography

Maeve Jenkinson has many years experience as a professional musician. She was a member of the first violins of the London Philharmonic Orchestra, playing concerts with world class musicians, touring and recording. She has also worked with chamber orchestras such as I Solisti Veneti and the Academy of St Martin-in-the-Fields.


As a student Maeve was a Foundation Scholar at the Royal College of Music where, where she was a pupil of Jaroslav Vanacek. She won the top prizes for violin and chamber music and was awarded scholarships to study in America with Josef Gingold, a Full Fellowship to study with Naoko Tanaka, Paul Kantor, and Dorothy Delay at the Aspen Music Festival, and participated in masterclasses with Franco Gulli, and Zakhar Bron. Josef Gingold described Maeve as “one of the finest violinists I have taught”.


Maeve started teaching violin over twenty years ago, when her children were young. She currently combines teaching with performing and is the Musical Director of the Corelli Ensemble, is first violinist with the Ludlay String Quartet, and plays regularly with the London Philharmonic.


Maeve set up her own teaching studio over ten years ago where she teaches a wide range of students from age 3 up to 83! She enjoys teaching all levels from absolute beginners through to professional players and her pupils have achieved many successes in grade exams, competitions, and scholarships. Several of her pupils have been members of the National Children's Orchestra, and many have gone on to study at Music Conservatoire.


Maeve takes great care to set up students with an excellent technique so they can enjoy playing beautiful music. She encourages pupils to perform in her student recitals, participate in music festivals, and enjoy playing in orchestras, ensembles and string quartets.
The Head of Strings from the Royal College of Music commented about one of Maeve’s pupils “You are very well set up with everything working well in your playing. An excellent performance and great to see you enjoying yourself so much.”
